Festival Review: Bestival 2015

The Jacksons

The Jacksons

Big acts, small acts, weddings, hippies, Trannies… Bestival 2015 pretty much saw it all. Nothing was left off the menu, and as you might expect, this years ‘Summer of Love’ theme went down a storm with the 80,000 plus attendees who graced the Isle of Wright site.

In terms of the music, this year it was a case of rolling back the years for the headliners.

Duran Duran, The Jacksons, Chemical Brothers and Missy Elliot have all been off the radar for a varied amount of time, but they all packed out the main stage, and in turn, bring a serious bout of nostalgia to the event.

Away from the headliners, Bestival was graced with sets from the likes of Annie Mac, Skillrex, Mark Ronson and the festival’s very own Rob Da Vibe throughout the weekend, which (through no fault of their own) made the alternative area – aka the ‘In to the Future’ stage feel redundant.

The stage in question saw sets from blossoming new acts including; Eagulls, Girlpool and Skinny Girl Diet – but with so much happening elsewhere (Pop bands/World Famous DJ’s etc) this little gem of a stage felt a-bit unloved and out of place, which is a shame considering it had a strong selection of bands all weekend.

That aside, Bestival once again showed its self to be one of the most diverse and ‘unique’ festivals on the calendar, and with the weather gods holding out until after the Fireworks had lit up the sky on the final evening, there was very few complaints from this writer.
