Live Review: Circa Waves @ The Lexington, London 28.05.14

Fresh off Kissability Records, Circa Waves are headlining The Lexington. When I first listened to the Liverpool quartet’s newest album ‘Stuck In My Teeth’ I initially drew comparisons with Jake Bugg, Drowners and Swim Deep. I was taken back to classic guitar pop with a hint of folk and country.

Support comes from the young Death at Sea. A clear and predictable choice to get the crowd pumped. Half way through their set and the room is almost packed with the general consensus of 17 year olds.

A few songs in and Circa Waves hit their incredible catchy and now polished single ‘good for me’, a definite crowd pleaser. Next up is a newer song, ‘Lost it’, and soon followed by their more ‘funky’ tune, Fossils. Some might compare this dynamic bunch with the likes of The Strokes but that would be a little insulting on rock music. However, I have to do have to give them credit on their work ethos and live aesthetic.
