With six studio albums and literally a thousand gigs under their belts, The Cribs manage to still feel as relevant today in the fickle world of Indie as they did back in 2002 when they emerged into our conciseness as three scruffy kids with guitars. Tonight the Wakefield lads hit their old stomping ground of Leeds for a night of “old skool” at the cities 02 Academy with a promise to delve deep into their back catalogue

From the word go nostalgia was in the air with the return of cult-mid noughties band Black Wire who reformed for the evening, they set the “old skool” tone with a 30 minute set including old favourites “Attack! Attack! Attack!” and “Hard to Love Easy to Lay”. With all this nostalgic indulgence it felt like 2005 again and as headliners The Cribs emerged on stage to the customary chants of “Yorkshire” over the top of the Edwyn Collins intro (The Campaign For Real Rock) Cribsmas number two was in full flow.

Opening with fan favourite ‘Hey Scenesters’, the Jarman brothers sparked a riotous mood within the crowd as they flew through a set of old favourites (all tracks were written and released pre-2006) and nothing from the back catalogue was spared as they threw in an old cover of Comet Gains ‘Saturday Night Facts of Life’ for good measure.

The Cribs drew the evening to a close with a rare outing for ‘Third Outing’ before ending the set with a messy, sweaty rendition of ‘The Wrong Way to Be’ as they left the stage to a barrage of reverb and amp feedback it left us wishing for one more night in 2005 (let’s face it 2013’s wank).
