Formed earlier in 2013 from the ashes of S.C.U.M, Astral Pattern is the new project of three of those members; Huw Webb, Melissa Rigby and Bradley Baker. Listening to the two-tracks that have been put into the public domain, it is clear Astral Pattern have made a clean break from S.C.U.M’s post-punk ethic, the turning point and inspiration being from a trip to Dusseldorf, to catch one of their favourite bands Kraftwerk play a homecoming show, the result of that is illustrated perfectly in Sitting in the Sun which is stripped of any old post-punk vibes and is instead synth-based, filled with beautiful dreamy melodies (listen below)
Astral Pattern will make their live debut and launch the ‘Light Poems’ EP tonight (July 4) at Shacklewell Arms. If you’re in the area, join me in checking them out.
