Battleships are the latest band to grasp my attention from Australia’s burgeoning music scene. They havent been around toolong (formed in 2012) In a nutshell their sound is more traditional indie aka Temper Trap than the appreciably in-vogue style of psychedelic-rock that compatriots Jagwar Ma & Co have been bringing to our shores over the past year (the PR press snip I received indicates they don’t create their sound on “fads or stylised trends but of authenticity and colour”) so yeah…
By all accounts Battleships have found themselves on high rotation on Triple J in Oz recently n their latest track ‘As you’d Begin‘ makes for a good introduction to the band if you are new to them. As You’d Begin starts how it ends with beautiful emotive sounds, sweet melodies and is filled with long drawn-out hooks (Temper Trap Esc)
Hopefully Battleships will be joining the exodus of Oz bands hitting our shores, so we might see them in the near future here in the UK. For more info, check out their Facebook page.
